Grow the Energy Circle Ltd. (GrowTEC) was born from a simple idea: what if a farm could produce both food and renewable energy while giving more back to the land than it takes?
Founded by Perry Family Farm in 2012, GrowTEC demonstrates a circular approach to agriculture, transforming organic waste into valuable resources, reducing emissions, and helping build a more sustainable future.
Alongside our partner EverGen, GrowTEC's on-farm biogas facility converts organic materials such as manure, food waste, and agricultural by-products into Renewable Natural Gas (RNG), which is injected into the FortisBC gas system and used to help decarbonize the natural gas grid and the end uses that gas powers. .
At a glance:
Waste → Biogas → RNG → Energy → Nutrients → Food
For us, GrowTEC is more than a renewable energy project—it's proof that agriculture can be part of the climate solution.
* Value Adding Organic Waste as Feedstock– GrowTEC diverts over 10,000 MT of manure from direct land spreading and over 5000MT of other organic waste from landfill or land application each year. This is basically stealing the methane form the organics and leaving the nutrients for fertilizer.
This is a Carbon Negative Project.
Digestate is the digestion by-product, which is separated into nutrient-rich and pathogen-free soil amendment. GrowTEC utilizes the digestate on the farm to reduce the synthetic fertilizer requirement, and raw manure spreading.
Before 2023, the biogas produced by the facility was converted into 100%, 24/7 renewable electricity and sold into the Alberta Electricity grid through AESO. GrowTEC produced nearly 3 times more electricity from organic waste than the entire Perry Farm operation consumed.
Today, GowTEC upgrades biogas to Renewable Natural Gas (RNG), which is injected into the ATCO grid in Alberta, which is connected to the FortisBC gas system and used to help decarbonize the natural gas grid.

The Perry Family is thrilled to Partner with EverGen on the GrowTEC Biogas Facility.
EverGen is expediting Canada's journey to not just show up, but to compete on the global renewable natural gas stage, combating climate change and helping communities contribute to a carbon-free future, starting on the West Coast.
EverGen is spreading awareness that Renewable Natural Gas doesn't just have a low carbon footprint (like LNG) or a neutral footprint (like wind and solar), RNG is carbon negative.
