Regen Ag refers refers to farming practices that aim to improve soil health and water quality, enhancing biodiversity, optimizing water use, minimizing or repurposing waste, and reducing the impact of synthetic inputs.
We believe in the future of regenerative agriculture and integrating renewable energy— that it can be productive, profitable, and regenerative.

Soil health is the capacity of soil to continue to function as a vital, living ecosystem that sustains life.
Healthy soil includes biological, physical and chemical components

A circular economy in agriculture is a regenerative system that prioritizes repurposing waste, minimizing reliance on synthetic inputs and circulating resources. Instead of traditional “take-make-dispose” linear models, recycling nutrients, converting waste into energy and enhancing soil health to regenerate nature creates a circle of give and take.
We GIVE back to nature so that we can continue to stay happy and healthy on our planet for generations to come.

The healthier and more nutrient dense the soil - the more nutrient dense the food it grows. This means healthier food to make healthier people!
On top of that, the healthier the soil, the less water and fertilizer we need to use to grow plants.
Healthy soil is a win for human health and a win for our planet's health.

We make and spread our own compost using feedlot manure. This adds biology, nutrients, and carbon to our soil.

We select a multispecies cover crop with the goal of reducing crop pests, promoting biodiversity, increasing soil organic matter, building an environment for beneficial organisms, and cycling nutrients back into our soil.

Harold has designed a great tram system to limit compaction in our spuds - Thanks to Spudnik for helping make it happen!

Data Driven Agriculture (DDA) integrates aerial image remote sensing and geographic information systems with controlled variable rate irrigation systems.
This allows us to optimize efficient water and fertilizer use, which allows for a 20% increase in land productivity and reduces waste and synthetic inputs.
DDA is huge key for being the best we can be in our regenerative agriculture practices. (Sunrise AG and Grow the Energy Circle have identified opportunities to fully develop precision farming practices within the irrigated regions of southern Alberta.)

Solar power is an important part of our sustainable circular economy. The solar panels are placed on rooftops and non-productive land- where they generate electricity that powers our farm.
We have invested in solar since 2011, with recent upgrades that include over 1MW installed in 2025-26.

Digestate is a by-product of the renewable energy production at GrowTEC.
Digestate can be separated into a nutrient rich pathogen free soil amendment. Applying digestate to our soil reduces raw manure spreading, and synthetic fertilizer inputs—both of which have negative impacts on our environment .
Basically a WIN WIN all over the place for regenerative agriculture and our planet (renewable energy, reduced Green-house gas emissions, reduced manure spreading, reduced synthetic fertiliser, improved soil health, organic waste repurposing) WOOHOO !!
